how to sign tax form while filing online?

i am filing tax online for the first time. i am really confused about signing. how to sign the form while filing online in case of federal tax and in case of state tax they ask for the date the tax return form is signed. by the way, i am using taxact. please help.

  1. I can’t speak specifically to TaxAct, but most online systems require you to include your AGI from your 2006 tax return along with a 5 digit self-select pin number.

    If you do not know your 2006 AGI, you will still be able to submit your tax return electronically, but you will have to fillout, sign and mail in Form 8453. TaxAct should be able to provide this form for you to print and sign.

    Some states do not allow you to file until your federal return has been accepted by the IRS. They are looking for the date you electronically filed your federal return as the date the tax return is signed.
