they took our tax return to apply it to my old student loan, we just filed an injured spouse form, how long does it take to get that return? one site i checked said 6 months?

Best answer:

Answer by Rob
Normally when an Injured Spouse Claim is filed separately from the return it will take approximately 8 to 12 weeks from the date the IRS receives the Form 8379.

Make sure in the future to file the 8379 with your return to avoid this on future returns

Using An Online Tax Return Service To Handle State Returns

March 5th, 2012 darlees Posted in Efile tax No Comments »

Article by Jeremy Smith

As efile becomes more popular, a lot of citizens are choosing to handle every aspect of their return online without ever traveling to an office or working with a human prep return professional. If your filing is fairly simple, this can be a wise decision: you probably won’t miss out on much of any potential refund. In most cases, paperwork filed by a trained preparer yields slightly larger deductions than the same paperwork filed by a computer alone. Whatever your reasons for turning online, there is one important issue to be aware of: state filing.

State And Federal Both Require Returns

When you pay the government, you’re actually paying at least two governments. The first is the Federal government, which is based in DC and handles national scale issues. You’re also paying at least one state government, likely the government of the state in which you work. You might also owe money to another state if you own a home in one and work in another. If you have this kind of complex situation, you will usually need to pay all relevant states. The same is true if you work in multiple states. This isn’t very common in larger states, but in places like the DC metro area or New England, it’s easy to see how you might split time between DC and Maryland offices near you.

Paying Online

Using an online tax return service usually means selecting to purchase state packages additionally. Some include one free of charge, but you’ll almost certainly need to pay if you want anything more than that included. Most will handle these separately from your Federal forms, but will transfer the information from one to the other. This means that you’ll be able to save a lot of time relative to entering everything fresh each time.

Usually, you will be guided to determine what exactly you need before being asked to purchase. In general, you can assume that you’ll need to file everywhere you did business in the past year. There are exceptions, in particular if you didn’t do enough cash volume to fall within liability limits or are otherwise excluded due to local rules.

One Bill At The End

Even though your funds will go to separate locations, there is usually just one bill at the end of the process that covers both federal and local level payments. The same is true of a refund: if you are entitled to receive one, you can order that it be deposited from all of these places into one account.

When trying to work with an online tax return service, the best way to handle local issues is by simply following the guidance that the program provides. Don’t try to second guess it or speed it up; answer every question it raises as accurately as possible and let it provide the suggestions of what to do next.

Is there a free online tax software to do efile with ITIN numbers?

February 18th, 2012 darlees Posted in Efile tax No Comments »

Question by : Is there a free online tax software to do efile with ITIN numbers?
I use the HR Block software efile program to do federal income taxes, but I am looking to prepare federal income taxes with ITIN numbers and social security numbers. The HR Block program wont allow ITIN numbers. Does anyone know of a software that I can use online or a cd software I can buy for preparing federal income taxes with ITIN Numbers?

Best answer:

Answer by the tax lady
The ITIN numbers can be used electronically once they have been issued.

So any software that cannot submit the return is at fault, not the IRS. The free file program (which is open to individuals, not paid preparers) may not support them.

I’m getting the impression from all of your posts that you are planning to prepare taxes for a fee. Be sure to purchase a professional license on whatever software you use.

Efile Extension to Your Taxes – It’s Easier Than Ever to Pay When You Want

September 1st, 2011 darlees Posted in Efile tax No Comments »

It’s tax season time, but you still aren’t ready to do your taxes; you don’t wish to get in trouble with the IRS; what should you do? The answer is simple. All you need to do is ask for an extension on your taxes so you can have extra six months to prepare everything, not get punished for it and still possible get your tax refund. Now you can request an extension in one of two two forms: one way is the old fashioned file extension process and the other is the efile extension. The real question is which would be better to use: the efile extension or the old fashion way?

The old fashion way is still very effective, but you would need to pick up the forms which is a hassle in itself when you take into consideration how many forms are out there. The efile extension is done completely online so it’s less of a hassle and a challenge to find the form that you need to fill out online.

The efile method for extensions is also much quicker than the traditional counterpart. The traditional method can take at least 6 weeks to get to the IRS offices where as efile extensions are done online and being done so getting to the IRS much quicker. One point to bring up, they are both equally safe reliable ways to do your extension. Last, but certainly not least in this case: the efile extensions are much cheaper to use than the old fashioned ways. Usually for the old fashioned way, you need to see a tax preparer and they will charge you for the services; with the efile extension, the middle man is gone saving you the money as well.

While it is possible to go about your extension in a traditional matter, it seems the best option is the efile extension
