Question by MrsADM: What is the best way to export only Sales Receipts in Quickbooks?
I know that the Quickbooks program itself does not let you export transactions (I’m using QB 2005), and I’m open to exploring the ulitization of a compatible management or POS software if it makes this process easier.

I have 2 computers with QB in our shop. One is available to any employee to use for product number lookups, etc. The second is the “main” version in which the “real” accounting is done in. Computer 1 is where all of the POS sales transactions are done. I choose not to copy the entire file and transfer it at the end of the day because of the mass-access given to computer 1. I’m currently printing a copy of the sales receipts report and re-entering them into Computer 2 at the end of the day, in turn, wasting about an hour to an hour and a half of time everyday. There has to be an easier way to do this. Any suggestions??

Thank you, in advance, for your help!

QuickBooks is an excellent business software package that makes running your own business easy. With it, you can keep track of your sales and your income easily. You can use it to pay employees and bill your customers. It will even remind you of things like when your taxes or other bills are due. Most importantly, it can be customized to suit any type of business. Of course you’ll need to know how to work with the program, so you may wish to consider getting some QuickBooks training.

Intuit, the makers of this fine software, have a few training options that you should know about. You can choose the option that works best for you based on how thoroughly you want to use the software. If you want to simply keep track of your income and expenses, you’ll need less training than someone who wants to do payroll for several employees. Luckily there are options to suit any need and any learning style.

Those who wish to learn by themselves at their own pace may prefer the learning software that is available separately. You can go through the lessons as quickly or as slowly as you wish, and you can skip over sections that do not apply to your business or your needs. There are learning programs that just cover the basics, and there are more intensive programs that enable you to tailor Quickbooks specifically to your industry.

If you learn better by being instructed by someone else, there are local QuickBooks experts available. They conduct seminars on how to use the program and offer step-by-step assistance. These seminars usually take two days. They will teach you everything you need to know about accounting with your program. You’ll learn the basics, but also payroll, reconciling bank accounts, billing, year-end closing and more – everything you need to know to run your business efficiently.

There are also training programs for those who use the program professionally, such as office staff and bookkeepers. These can also be tailored to the needs of the user. You can take a live class in a classroom, or learn at your own pace in an online class. These will prepare you to become a Certified user, which will give you a great advantage when seeking to use the program for an employer.

Answer by rtfm
You’ll have to compare the two and reconcile them.

Just as a guess — your Quickbooks has probably subtracted checks or purchases you entered that haven’t cleared your bank account yet.

Answer by Laissez-Faire Guy
The best Quickbooks book I ever saw was one that was used to teach in a community college class I took. It took you step by step in learning how to do all the transactions, while giving you a little accounting theory too.

Unfortunately, the one I used is long out of print and outdated. I would drop by your local community college and go to their bookstore and see what book they use to teach that class. I’m sure they have one.

It may be a tad late, but the class was incredibly useful when I took it.

Doing Business As Two Different Names.

The same company holds two separate bank accounts for each business but i need to consolidate everything.

What’s the best way to set this up on Quickbooks?

Thanks a lot i Appreciate your Help!

Best answer:

Answer by Karon B
I would set the two dba’s up as classes. I have a similar situation where one of my clients has two newspapers but one corporation. We set all of the income and expense as classes. We don’t really need two checking accounts but we could. Just be sure when you are paying bills that you do it from the right account. That is a very common error.

Answer by Huntsman
Did you know there is a site called Mint.com that people out there love?
Ask here – since I’m not positive the name is Mint.com
It will show you where all your money is going in pie charts and graphs
^ never tried it – but heard about it. And its free

Ask here if this site is still alive and well.
It’s not something I use, since I use 2 credit cards for everything and it just showed my spending is 40% credit cards – did not quite work out

Small business, since the advent of cloud computing have a streak towards taking decisions that reduces their local IT burden and instead going for the cloud services to management many of their applications, for example QuickBooks. In contrast to the local desktop Deployment of QuickBooks accounting application, QuickBooks Hosting implies deployment the application on third party cloud servers centrally and then accessing the program as a local desktop interface. The access to the application needs to be global as local deployment makes it premise bound and cloud hosting solutions instead, are available anytime anywhere.? Do not want troubleshooting and other technical cost and resource allocation locally? Easy application administration is desired where in common setting for all users can be managed centrally QuickBooks hosting is thus preferred alternative for small business if they wish always on application availability, low application lifetime holding costs, reduce their downtime and most important of all get require application kicking and running in minutes using the cloud computing solutions. Also since the database is centrally accessed the users do not have to carry all their data with them always.Security: With Real time monitoring done the enterprise data is secure and reliability of the network insured. Further the data is backed up in many locations automatically on a daily basis. Host all Editions and Versions: QuickBooks hosting is available for all editions and versions of such as QuickBooks Enterprise, QuickBooks Pro and QuickBooks Premier.

Question by rugthug: How do I adjust the subtotal and total amounts in Quickbooks Pro?
The subtotal box on my quickbooks pro invoice shows the tax already calculated. Then the “total” box shows this same amount. How do I change my invoice template so that the subtotal shows the total without the tax already calculated and then the total shows the total of the order with the sales tax? Thanks.
I can get to the point where I can edit the invoice but can’t figure out how to setup the sales tax correctly.

Best answer:

Answer by KELLEY D
Go to LISTS–TEMPLATES..chooses template to change. Choose ADDITIONAL CUSTIMIZATION..FOOTER TAB and choose Footers you want (ie. subtotal, sales tax, total or balance due.) Hope this helps. I am working on 2007 version. Sometimes only the Admin has editing right to templates.

You have to set up the sales tax in the ITEM LIST. Depending on the state you are in, you may have to set up discresionary on top of a flat rate. You will have to do the base/flat rate and the discresionary seperately and then do a new group for them to be linked together.
