Is there Tax software that tracks returns over time?

Question by Michael S: Is there Tax software that tracks returns over time?
I’m looking for tax software that you can keep and only update every year instead of buying anew every year, that will also keep past years’ data. is there such a beast?

Can I actually file tax forms with packages like Quicken or Microsoft Money?

Answer by William
Turbo tax does a great job with this. It automatically transfers your returns from year to year. It imports from Quicken if you wish and it will show you year to year comparisons when you do your return review. It is a little more expensive than the H&R Block package (TAXCUT) but well worth it.
With TurboTax you actually buy a new version every year as with all the other versions but you can get on the automatic update list and just download it. Since tax laws and forms change every year I don’t think you are going to find anything that you don’t renew annually.

Is there any tax software can identify 21-Character option symbol?

February 22nd, 2012 darlees Posted in Tax software No Comments »

Question by belong: Is there any tax software can identify 21-Character option symbol?
The Options Clearing Corporation (OCC), an industry-wide body that oversees the clearance and settlement of exchange-listed options traded on all 7 options exchanges in the U.S., has instituted a change in the way options symbols are represented in data transmissions between financial services firms.

Options symbols have increased in length from 5 characters to 21 characters as part of a new industry standard format used in back-end operations, and now contain both numbers and letters.

Brokerage firms and data providers are allowed to create their own translation of the new industry standard format in their presentation of options symbols to the public.

What if you don’t have a printer, would that be a problem? Is there any of charges besides the cost of the software?
And, is it better then going to the a real tax person?

Answer by Jenniffer B
You know you don’t even have to use turbo tax? You can just go to www.irs.gov and do what’s called an “e-file”. It is free, and they guarantee it because it’s the governments website. You can even get direst deposit and get your return in like 2 weeks.

Question by JChan49ers: Best Tax Software For This Situation?
I have a simple tax filing situation, and am trying to choose the best software for my situation.

I have to file the Federal Return, and the MO and NE returns, having worked in 2 states the past year. I also have an active investment (brokerage) account. I know enough tax and accounting to fill out forms manually if necessary.

What is the best tax software package to use that combines simplicity and cost?
